The VPS relay is used in an automatic load tap changer to indicate loss of vacuum in the vacuum bottles in the tap changer mechanism. The failure of this relay can prevent operation of the LTC. Most utilities do not have spares on this equipment, thus we treat incoming repairs to “front of the line” service.
